Introduction to Documentary Photography with Eoin O’Conaill
This workshop offers a fast paced introduction to documentary photography, touching on some of the key themes in the evolution of the medium. The term “documentary” is broad and this workshop will look at some of the early traditions of documentary storytelling, drawing parallels with contemporary photographers and movements.
Exploring landscape, portraiture, photojournalism and diaristic photography, we will examine the work of many photographers from old masters to emerging artists, from large format photographers to smartphone photojournalists.
There will be a selection of photography books to look at and discuss on the day and handouts detailing videos, online resources, books and essays will leave participants with many opportunities to further develop on their interest in the medium.
